Reading Skills:

Each student must pass the MCA II Reading test in order to graduate. The purpose of the test is for the student to
demonstrate their ability in reading comprehension and critical
thinking. To assist the student in passing the test, the student
will be taught vocabulary and language skills, main idea, passage
analysis and inferences, credibility of sources, literary terms and
how to read consumer documents.
The student will also be reading a variety of materials that focus
on literal and inferential comprehension and oral fluency.

Written Language Skills:

Each student must pass the MCA II Writing test in order to graduate. The purpose of the test is for the student to compose an original work that demonstrates a student’s ability to form and communicate a message in English to another reader. To assist the student in passing this test, the student will be taught the five aspects that are evaluated: clarity of central idea, coherent focus, organization, detailed support or elaboration of ideas and language usage. Then the student will be given various opportunities to practice the skills taught with chosen prompts.
The student will also be working on the different types of sentence structure that will help to make what they are writing more interesting to read.
